New hotels rule in Marrakech

January 01, 1970 12.00 AM

fashionable geckos belly-up to the sun. The last year has seen a boon of hotel developments with names like Morgans, Taj and Oetker Collection displacing many long favored hotels. Here’s where we think you should be checking-in this season.

La Mamounia continues to bloom in the walled city, especially on Sundays with its poolside champagne buffet. Royal Mansour remains its top competition in terms of opulence and service as well as dining rooms curated by 3-star Michelin chef Yannick Alléno. For those looking for more of an Amanjena experience, new Palais Namaskar is born from the owners of Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc and Le Bristol in Paris that offers an opulent Grace Kelly meets 1001-Nights palace of oases in Palmeraie.

Those looking for something a bit more young and trendy have likely heard of the Delano opening near the new city, but opt for Selman Marrakech with its artist in residence program and architectural interiors by Jacques Garcia. As for what’s next, Baglioni Hotels is bringing a bit of La Dolce Vita later this spring with Mandarin Oriental giving the desert sun another go in late-2014.
